Live AMA on Remote Recording with PRX

These days, everyone’s favorite podcasts are staying home, but the intricacies of recording remotely can stump even the most seasoned audio pros. Everything else may be in flux, but you can rest assured: the basics of getting good tape haven’t changed.

In this AMA (“Ask Me Anything”), members of our training team will tackle your trickiest remote recording questions and help keep your show running as smoothly as possible. Check out our Ultimate Guide to Remote Recording (part one and two) and come with questions about:

ABOUT OUR PANELISTS

Alexandra Blair - Headshot.jpg

Alexandra Blair’s work lives at the intersection of transformative problem solving, radical agility, and journalistic practice. Her goal: to empower all journalists to nimbly address 21st-century demands with confidence and empathy.

She serves as the Project Manager for PRX’s podcasting initiatives for journalists and helps bring fresh modes of thought into the classroom with the department of Journalism + Design at The New School. She also leads design development of the program’s systems thinking resources for inclusive reporting practices and newsroom ethics.

A first-generation college graduate, she received her BFA from Parsons School of Design with a focus on journalistic practices and memory in art and design. Find her climbing any given rock in Denver, CO.

Kevin O’Connell is the Studio & Operations Manager at the PRX Podcast Garage Boston. Kevin is a professional musician, engineer + producer, educator, and arts advocate with a focus in creative development, mentorship, and audio production. As an educator and arts advocate, he founded the West Suburban YMCA Center for the Creative Arts (YCCA) – a 360-degree teen music and media program serving youth and teens in the MetroWest suburbs of Boston. As an engineer and producer, he has worked with many artists and musicians both in and outside of Boston including Grammy Recording Artist Alex Torres y Sú Orquestra. He currently performs with a number of Boston-based artists including the 2019 Boston Music Awards ‘Folk Artist of the Year’ nominees Hawthorn. Stephanie Kuo is the Project Manager for Project Catapult, a PRX initiative that trains public radio stations to make podcasts as a way to reach new audiences. As a member of PRX’s Training Team, Stephanie has helped organize and run podcast and design-thinking trainings around the world – from Phoenix, Ariz. to Salzburg, Austria. She is an award-winning public radio reporter, originally from Dallas, Texas. Before PRX, she covered poverty and homelessness at KERA, the NPR affiliate of North Texas – where she also helped launch and manage training for the Texas Station Collaborative, a reporting consortium of public radio newsrooms across the state. Stephanie also produces and guest hosts Racist Sandwich, a James Beard-nominated podcast that explores the intersection of food, race, gender and class. She studied journalism at the University of Texas at Austin and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. Follow her on Twitter @stephanieskuo.

Se’era Ricks is the Community Manager at the PRX Podcast Garage D.C. The focal point and catalyst of her goals has been uplifting diverse, innovative and underrepresented voices. She has sought out opportunities to engage and collaborate with her community to serve, build partnerships and bring amazing content that resonates and connects the District. Prior to the Podcast Garage, Se’era specialized in marketing, events and special projects at WAMU 88.5, Daily Press Media Group and Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts. Now she’s continuing that work by helping to remove barriers for independent podcasters, providing a platform for diverse voices and ensuring the Podcast Garage is a welcoming space that celebrates the vibrant culture of the DMV.
