In 2016, PRX opened Podcast Garage Boston in Boston in August 2016 to support the work of local audio producers and storytellers. Five years later, we opened a second location in San Francisco with our partners at KQED.

Since day one, it’s been our mission to provide a space that values the voices and stories of all and supports new audio makers in three main areas:

Recording: Production resources are hard to find. We provide access to professional recording studios, rent audio equipment, and prioritize affordability for everyone.
Training: Field recording, editing, interviewing, sound design, marketing... the learning curve is steep. We offer hands-on training for makers of all levels.
Community: We are a gathering place and event space for podcasters, radio reporters, oral historians, sound artists, musicians, and more. You never know who you’ll meet when you come to visit.

We also host podcasters in PRX’s global training programs like the Google Podcast creator program.

Across our work, our priorities are to create accessible and affordable entry points for new makers; represent the voices and stories of everyone in our community; encourage connection and collaboration between producers; and nurture new shows with resources and training.

COMMUNITY POLICIES

Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, a visitor for the first time or the hundredth time, we want you to feel welcome and supported at the Podcast Garage.

PRX expects everyone at the Podcast Garage to display common courtesy and respect for staff and users as well as the physical space. Anyone whose behavior disrupts the operations of the Podcast Garage or compromises the safety and well-being of anyone present will be grounds for temporary or permanent dismissal.

The following actions and forms of discrimination and abuse will not be tolerated:

Racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination
Theft or damage of property
Physical, verbal, or mental abuse
Sexual harassment, inappropriate/unwelcome comments and behaviors
Disruptive or disrespectful behavior
Causing a participant or attendee to feel distressed or unsafe
Retaliation against any individual who complains about discrimination or abuse
Additionally, we ask that you do not share or otherwise distribute the emails of other Podcast Garage users.

PRX staff reserves the right to ask anyone who violates these agreements to change their behavior or leave the space as needed.
