Hungry for mid-day community and conversation? Spend your lunch hour with us! Join Jess Shane, Aliya Pabani and the wider Garage community next for a Listening Lunch at the Podcast Garage for a conversation around audio you don’t usually hear on the radio.
We'll provide gripping audio, great conversation, and, of course, lunch (with veg and gluten-free options). Jess and Aliya will present a few stand-out audio works, which we'll enjoy together, and facilitate a conversation around how to use the medium to your advantage in audio storytelling.
As always, the PRX Podcast Garage is wheelchair accessible and welcomes all people, whether listener or producer, novice or expert. Tickets are $7.00 and include lunch.
ABOUT THE CURATORS
Jess Shane is an audio producer and community artist based in Toronto. Her work has aired on the BBC's Short Cuts, WBEZ’s Re:Sound, and CBC’s The Doc Project, Love Me, Now or Never, and Ideas. She is also the co-founder of Constellations, a podcast and collective for sound art and experimental audio. These days she’s working at CBC Radio as a producer on Personal Best. Her love of audio was born from community arts practice, where she collaborated with communities in accessible spaces across the Greater Toronto Area to design story-based interactive audio-visual installations. This work was deeply informed by time spent working at PARC with Making Room Community Arts and Jumblies Theatre.
Aliya Pabani is a multidisciplinary artist and host/producer of CANADALAND’s arts and culture podcast The Imposter. Her art practice uses methods from design ethnography, comedy and tactical media to examine the ideological underpinnings of public infrastructure. She recently performed in CAPITALIST DUETS at The Theatre Centre, Flowchart at Dancemakers, and her multichannel video installation “Corrections” with Onyeka Igwe was exhibited at Trinity Square Video as part of last year’s Images Festival. She is based in Toronto, Canada.
