Audio has the potential to be an incredibly visceral, experiential medium. But how do you move past the simple interview or two-way into more immersive sounds?
In this five-week workshop, you'll learn how to listen deeper, record better, and turn your ideas into sounds. You will produce a short, sound-rich audio piece from start to finish, learning sound theory, recording best practices, and mixing techniques along the way.
The workshop will take place on Saturdays from October 13 to November 10. Participants will gather at the PRX Podcast Garage from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m for each session.
We recommend this class for intermediate or advanced producers. Students should have a basic grasp of recording and editing beforehand.

Instructor Jeff Emtman is the long-time editor of KCRW’s Here Be Monsters Podcast, a series of sound-rich audio documentaries about fear and the unknown. He’s lectured on sound and story at the Columbia University, CPH:DOX and the PRX Podcast Garage.
