We Believe
At PRX, we believe in the power of podcasting to bring new perspectives, conversations, and stories into our lives. Podcasting is a technology that is open to all. However, breaking through the “noise” of the podcasting industry can be challenging, especially if you don’t have access to training or a community.
That’s why we are an open door to independent, early-stage, and DIY podcasters who are passionate about an idea and want to bring it to life.
Classes
Scholarships
At this time, we can provide one full or partial scholarship for each class. Anyone with financial need can apply — it is not based on your previous experiences or skills in audio. If you’d like to apply, please fill out our scholarship application form.
We encourage you to:
Be open to new ideas and keep it moving! When you’re not sure what to do next, plant a flag and go forward.
Make a commitment. Create a weekly schedule and stick to it. You’re signing up for a reason.
Let yourself be a learner. Make mistakes. Ask “dumb” questions. Try stuff that doesn’t work.
Believe in and support others taking the class. Listen. Participate. Provide feedback. The more you put in, the more you’ll get back - and that’s a good thing!
What you can expect:
Skilled industry professionals as instructors
Weekly video lessons with hands-on assignments, listening, and reading
Clear deadlines to keep you motivated
Scheduled office hours with your instructor for personalized support
24/7 discussion board for group conversation and feedback
Flexibility to access all class materials at your convenience
Access on mobile and desktop
What makes PRX’s classes different?
THEY’RE always interactive
No boring lectures allowed! Every class is action-oriented, regardless of the topic. You will create something, get feedback on it, and feel more confident in bringing those tools back to your own audio project.
We focus on your needs
We focus on who is in the room and what their individual needs are to make each class as accessible as possible. Our instructors provide ground-level support, offering guidance and flexibility as needed. Seats are limited to allow for more personal interaction.
You’ll find a community
We believe that community is an essential ingredient to thinking creatively. Every class provides opportunities to get to know your peers and their projects through an active, online community. Plus, our team at PRX is with you every step of the way, keeping you informed and connected.
Is PRX Sound School right for me?
We primarily serve independent, early-stage, and DIY audio makers who are passionate about an idea and want to bring it to life.
We also welcome you if you are:
Experienced telling stories in another medium (writing, film, etc.) and want to develop your audio skills
Experienced in audio production and want to strengthen other skills specific to podcasting
A public media journalist or audio producer looking to use podcasts as a way to innovate at your station
Our classes are rated as beginner, intermediate and advanced. We will introduce more classes at each skill level. Whether you are starting out — or well on your way — you will discover something new with us.
