You love to listen to podcasts and you want to make your own audio stories, but where do you start? You start by turning on a microphone and recorder, and tuning your ears.
In this workshop, we'll learn how to make stories that resonate with listeners. We’ll uncover the potential of audio, break down the essential elements of a good story, learn interviewing and recording techniques, as well as audio editing using Adobe Audition.
We highly recommend this workshop for audio beginners. It will be a small class of ten engaged students. You will spend a weekend immersed in learning the basics of audio storytelling, while listening to inspiring audio from masters of the craft. By the end of the weekend, you will understand how to use these new audio skills to tell stories in the most compelling way possible.
The workshop will take place at the PRX Podcast Garage over one evening and two full days:
- Friday, August 17: 6:30 – 9:30pm
- Saturday, August 18: 10am - 4pm
- Sunday, August 19: 10am – 4pm
Participants will need to bring a laptop with Adobe Audition (free trial).
PRICING
The cost of this workshop is $275 for non-members and $250 for members of the Podcast Garage or members of the Harvard Ed Portal (i.e. any Allston-Brighton resident). Sign up below!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ibby Caputo is an award-winning, multimedia journalist, editor and instructor. She has written extensively about her experience overcoming illness for The New York Times, The Washington Post, and has produced audio dairies about her experience with cancer for Scene on Radio, the BBC's Short Cuts and Australian Public Broadcasting's Radiotonic. Her audio documentary, “Crying Dry Tears,” received first place in The Missouri Review’s 2016 Miller Audio Contest. She was a 2014-2015 MIT-Knight Science Journalism fellow and is an adjunct professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a recurring guest speaker at Harvard Divinity School.
